Hats off to Three (3) the UK mobile phone network. They have teamed up with Skype the Voice over IP (VoIP) internet software company owned by eBay to create a mobile phone with Skype built in. The phone is available on contract (from £free) and pay as you go (£49). The phone comes in 3 different colours. White-Blue (shown), White-Pink and black.

Now… you can make skype to skype calls for free, but you do have to top up £10 per month to do so. I personally spend £15 per month on pay as you go so I qualify for the free skype access and this also allows you to spend that full £10 topup on whatever addons you like on the flat 12 payg plan. I went for 300 minutes/texts with my £15 topup. Skypeout doesnt work on the phone, you can only call or chat with another user on skype (pc) or another skype phone. Text chats work well and calls are clear even if you drop out of the 3g signal and onto orange for roaming. The phone also has a 2 megapixel camera which produces good results.

It doesn’t have a flash, but for the price of the phone it works great. On three you can browse a section of the internet for free (sites selected by three) but this is great as it includes Google inc gmail, Yahoo, Facebook and more. At £49 the pay as you go option on this phone is a complete bargain. You could get one for your partner and have free calls between you on skype or call family or friends without the need to be on skype on your pc.
